AhlulBayt News Agency: A specialized neurosurgery and spinal surgery team at Al‑Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital has performed a spinal correction operation on a 50‑year‑old female patient.
Dr. Hossam Al‑Anbari, a neurosurgery and spinal surgery specialist at the hospital, said the medical team carried out a delicate 3.5‑hour procedure that involved correcting the spine using 14 medical screws and adjusting the vertebrae from the 12th thoracic vertebra to the first sacral vertebra, in addition to freeing the nerve roots to restore mobility and relieve pressure causing pain.
He added that detailed examinations revealed severe narrowing of the spinal canal in the lumbar region, along with spinal curvature caused by advanced osteoarthritis, which had led to vertebral deviation and worsening of the condition with age.
